It’s that time of year when people encounter fawns, baby rabbits, birds, and other young wildlife. IDNR wants to remind everyone: IF YOU CARE, LEAVE THEM THERE!
When people find young wildlife, they often jump to the conclusion that the animal is orphaned and needs help. That is typically NOT the case.
Young animals are often left alone while their parents are away searching for food or as they are learning to make it on their own. For example, deer leave their fawns hiding in cover or sometimes in landscaping while staying nearby. Fledgling birds that may fall from a nest are still learning to fly.
Many orphaned animals that are “rescued” each year by well-meaning people were not really orphans at all.
Please be aware that it is also unlawful to take deer and other wild animals protected by the Wildlife Code into captivity without the proper permits to do so. Wildlife are held in the public trust.

Clarke Mosquito will be applying a mosquito pre-hatch application later today or tomorrow via helicopter. This is a pelleted larvicide directed at the designated low lying areas of Woodhaven property to prevent hatching of the larvae into adults. This is one part of the two part approach we make to lessen the mosquito population. ... See MoreSee Less

Was a great rain. Everything will be so full and lush!
Ooooh how I miss that place , think of it often …..Bonita my love to you
Too bad the deer ate all the bottom branches off of all the trees. The common ground behind my lot used to be lush with greenery & now it looks like this.
I wish the rain would stop in Section 26!!

As we approach the season and continue to review the deer population at Woodhaven Lakes, we wanted to inform/remind Owners of the procedure when encountering a dead deer on property.
If you should happen upon a dead deer, please immediately inform Public Safety by calling 815-849-5915. A member of either the Public Safety Department or Maintenance/Resources Department will collect the deer as timely as is possible. When feasible, based on several factors including the condition of the carcass, we will reach out to the IDNR to collect the deer for testing.

We found one on our lot last year and they came out really quick to take care of it. Still sad thinking about it, but you have to accept all the parts of nature to appreciate it.
That’s what the coyotes are for
Fresh kill... freezer food!
Yes it’s part of nature unfortunately we didn’t get that lucky when we called on a fresh deceased deer they could have tested but they waited too long over 4 days. Then reported a yearling over a week ago and it took over 5 days to recover it
Siren Testing 5/2/24: Sometime mid-morning to afternoon Thursday, upon completion of the new siren install, we will be testing the sirens. In the event of inclement weather, testing will be postponed. ... See MoreSee Less
